Chapters 6-9 Study Questions

Before reading chapters 6-9, look at these study questions.  If you are reading alone, think about these questions as you read and be prepared to answer them in class if asked.  If you are reading with a partner or in a group, discuss these questions while you read, and be prepared to answer the questions if asked.  Keep in mind that these are NOT the ONLY questions you can/will be asked in class!


Chapters 6-9

1.  What did Clerval give Frankenstein when he was better?
2.  How did Frankenstein and Clerval spend the next several months?
3.  What news did the letter from Frankenstein’s father bring?
4.  What did Frankenstein see just outside the gates of Geneva as he was returning home? 
5.  Who was accused of committing the murder, and why?
6.  What was Frankenstein’s reaction to this accusation?
7.  What did Frankenstein do about his dilemma?

8.  What happened to the accused person?
9.  What was Frankenstein’s state of mind after the trial and its conclusion? 

10. Where did Frankenstein go to seek relief?


Chapters 6-9 Vocabulary

Please make three different posts of three different vocabulary words from chapters 6-9 of Frankenstein.  You must post the words, the part of speech, and the definition:

ex.
CALLOUS: (adj.) thick-skinned, insensitive

In addition, you must reply to three others students' vocabulary words with a sentence of your own written in context:

ex.
The callous man was not bothered by the horrific accident on the side of the road.

This is due Wednesday by class time.

Daily Frankenstein Vocabulary Assignment


Daily Frankenstein Vocabulary Assignment: 

There are literally hundreds of vocabulary words that I could assign you from this novel, but rather than a long listing of dictionary terms for each of you, we are going to collaborate to create our own Frankenstein Vocabulary Dictionary as a class.

Each reading assignment that you are given will entail anywhere from 12- 25 pages of reading. Within those pages you will need to find three words that were previously unfamiliar to you or you have never seen used in the way Shelley used them.

These three words will be defined via an online or print dictionary and posted in a reply on this blog site. The uniqueness of this project is that as a collaborative effort, you may not use any word that has already been used by another classmate. Don't worry, like I said before, there are hundreds of words for each reading section that could be assigned for defining.

Also post the page in the novel where you found the book.

I do reserve the right, though, to add words to the list (via the blog) if needed for any reason. These will be the terms you will find on your reviews, quizzes and final Frankenstein test. Be prepared to study them from the blog and also make sure that you are accountable to your classmates with quality terms and work.

How are you graded?
This is it! Your chance to choose the vocabulary words that we will be using in class and studying. Please keep in mind as you choose your words, the following grading rubric:

10 points earned per blog: All three words are defined, the part of speech is given and definition (as used in novel) and the words are new to the reader.

5 points earned per blog: All three words are defined, the part of speech or definition is left out OR the words are considered below grade level of a senior in high school.

3 points earned per blog: Less than three words are defined, the part of speech or definition is left out AND the words chosen are considered below grade level of a senior in high school.

0 points earned per blog: No attempt AND/ OR words are undefined and considered below grade level.
Any blog published after the due date will only be eligible for 1/2 points possible (5). Posts are due before class time.
